It may surprise you to learn that even the treadmill has myths that have to do with your knees. Some people believe that running on a treadmill is not as hard on your knees as running on pavement, concrete, or asphalt. No way, running in general is harsh on the knees no matter what the surface. Running forces your knees to take the full impact of your weight. The surface you choose to run on has no impact on the safety of the exercise.
