Kettlebell Exercises vs. Electronic Ab Devices: Choose Your Side

By Brent Neenan

If you flip on the TV in those early morning hours when sleep is elusive or, sadly enough, you just need to be awake at that hour, then you've surely seen your fair share of infomercials. Many of them are geared towards fitness and advertise workouts that promise amazing results in shorter and shorter amounts of time (with less effort.) The truth is, many well-known workout regimes are a scam, but kettlebells and kettlebell exercises will give you just what you're looking for: an efficient workout in arelatively short amount of time.

First, let's compare kettlebells to a more obvious offender: the 15-minute workout. This seems too good to be true, and it is. In 15 minutes, you can't possibly get the workout you need for a lean, toned, sculpted body. You don't even have enough time to warm up and cool down appropriately. Any workout that promises results in this short amount of time is almost surely a scam. If you're looking for a quick, efficient workout, then kettlebells and kettlebell exercises are the way to go. Because they engage your entire body and many muscle groups at the same time, they require less workout time than a traditional (but effective) exercise like the treadmill. It may be more than 15 minutes, but in a shorter amount of time you'll be done working out and will be on to the rest of your day.

Another widely known product sold on infomercials is the electronic ab exercises. The science behind these miniature torture devices is that weight loss can be actualized through electronic impulses that send weak electrical shocks directly to the body causing muscles to tighten. Regardless of the fact that these machines are widely used in the medical field there is not guarantee it helps people lose weight. The only real way to lose weight is to through the exertion of energy which will increase your heart rate. Allowing a machine to do the work for you doesn't actually aid the body. Kettlebells however, require physical effort and mental concentration which always yields positive results.

A third concept to debunk is the idea of supplements that are considered to be a "workout in a bottle." This is like the electronic ab devices in that they allegedly offer good results with almost no effort. Regardless of the fact that supplements and vitamins compliment healthy living they most certainly cannot take place of a whole workout. The statement "no pain no gain" fits perfectly in the realm of workouts. Kettlebell exercises allow you to literally feel the weights working and toning your body. It is a true challenge for; yourself.

Kettlebells and kettlebell exercises are a fantastic way to work out and get your body in shape-and unlike so many of the scams out there, they do work. So the next time you notice the same "that seems too good to be true" workout practice, remember that it most likely is, and give those kettlebells a try!
