By Jason Creep

There always seems to be something getting in the way for many people who want to get fit. It can be really easy to find an excuse to not exercise like not having the time or the motivation. The following are some ways to help you get past your limitations and obstacles to getting fit.

Some people have to deal with the weather as a serious obstacle to their fitness goals. In areas with severe winters, there may be days or even weeks, where you won't be able to exercise outside or even drive to the gym. By the time spring comes along, you've forgotten about your exercise program. You can easily overcome this problem by having exercises you can do at home. It's always good to have a routine that you can do at home because even though you may prefer exercising at the gym or outside, it's not always practical to go out. This can be using weights, an exercise machine, or a mat for calisthenics, yoga, or push-ups.

One perceived obstacle to fitness is age, as some people feel they can't start exercising at whatever age they are. Not that long ago, this would have seemed like a valid reason not to begin exercising, but not anymore, as doctors and researchers have found that people of any age can benefit from exercise. While older people naturally lose muscle mass, studies have also shown that they can gain it back quite quickly by doing strength building exercises. There are many types of fitness programs that are appropriate for older people, including weight training, walking and aquatics. In other words, age is no longer a barrier to exercising and reaching a higher level of fitness.

When people who start out with unrealistic expectations, they are more likely to quit if they don't see immediate results. You have to understand that improving your health and level of fitness doesn't happen overnight. Whether your goal is to lose a certain number of pounds or to build muscle, it will take time to get there and may be longer than you'd like. Doing nothing won't get you to your goal but exercising will get you there eventually.

Try approaching your fitness program with a more relaxed attitude rather than expecting immediate, dramatic results. Patience and discipline are the keys to getting the desired results from any fitness routine. Soon after beginning a fitness routine, many people start feeling better, although it may take time to reach their goals. No matter how long it takes to reach your goals, always giving your best will net you the best results. As you start your own exercise bike routine, use these tips to help you to stick with it.
