How Even The Most Unhealthy Person Can Get Fit

By Robert Madden

Fitness isn't all about rippling muscles and body building. Fitness is a state in which your body is performing at its absolute peak. This can be accomplished through proper diet, exercise and taking care of yourself. We have outlined some ideas and suggestions here on how you can become a more fit person.

If you want to get the best results out of your fitness plan, then let the elliptical machine become your best friend. Elliptical machines are one of the most effective pieces of equipment to burn calories and get your heart rate up. They are considered "low-impact" workouts and allow you to burn anywhere from 500 to 600 calories per hour.

Walking in the winter will help to burn more calories. Walking in the snow is tougher than walking on solid ground; therefore you will burn more calories. When walking in the snow you will walk at a slower pace, but you must lift your feet higher this will make you work harder and burn more calories.

When recovering from an injury, you should try and work out as soon as possible. Start out with only a few minutes here and there to test out if you are truly better. If you are, then you should start working out and build up the strength that you had lost while injured.

Pace yourself! If you are staying at the gym for more than 2 hours per day, then you are probably running out of energy while you are still working out. Save some energy! You are burning through all of your energy with the earlier exercises!

Practice "Four-Square Breathing" after your workout while stretching. Breath in for four seconds, then breath out for four seconds, and repeat for three minutes. "Four-Square Breathing" increases your lung capacity and reduces stress when done properly, which helps you relax after your workout, and get ready for the rest of your day.

Increasing your speed while running is healthier and more effective than trying to lengthen your stride. It is important that your body lands under you while running to prevent straining the muscles or damaging the sole of the foot, this also sets your body up correctly for the next stride. Likewise, increasing your speed instead of your stride burns far more calories.

Perhaps you never would have thought that fitness was something you would enjoy. Maybe you were one of those who cringed at the very sound of the word. But, as you have learned from this article, it is something that you can soon come to look forward to an enjoy. Take what you have learned and start applying it to your life. Before long, you will be enjoying every moment of fitness that you can find.
